Remote Working

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

With the advances in technology companies now have at their disposal fast and secure remote access connections. Staff no longer need to be located within the office building taking up expensive office space, they can now work from home and still receive all required information and data. Data, files, Email, database access and telephone extensions can now all be received from their home.

All services such as Email, Data Files, Internet Access and Security, Applications and Company Telephone integration can all be accessed as they would if they had a desk at the office. This is also true is they are travelling abroad, a laptop, an Internet connection and the appropriate security is all they need to access the corporate network.

All facilities are available over VPN including Email, secure Internet Access, Data (Files) and Applications (Databases etc.). The homeworker receives a seamless connection that is very similar to actually being in the office. Most companies that use this method now limit on the number of workstations in the office and adopt desk sharing, this means that the staff use these terminals on a rota basis when they are in the office.

Homeworking

Homeworking and Remote Access is beneficial to businesses as their staff can work from home minimising on office space, facilities and generally lowering overheads. All that is required for the home user is a computer and a broadband connection. A VoIP telephone can be installed with a Digital Telephony system back at the office and the user can be connected to the main telephone system, have their own internal extension and answer/receive business telephone calls.

Successful businesses are always looking for ways of reducing overheads and maximising profits. The current increasing trend is employing homeworking and remote access. The main benefit of homeworking is that the office space required is minimised. With the correct infrastructure in place a remote user needs only a digital telephone (Voice over IP), a broadband connection and a computer. Access is through VPN (Virtual Private Networking) and secure tunnels through the Internet via secure protocol.

What Are the Different Data Storage Options Available?

Tags: , , , , , ,

No one wants to believe that something could happen to their data. Everyone wants to believe that those accidents that wipe hard drives or corrupt data are things that always happen to “other people’s” systems. But the truth of the matter is that an accident or even a malicious attack could happen to anyone at anytime, and a company or individual that is conscientious of this fact will actively seek out all the available data storage options and find the backup or storage solution they need.

Each data storage system on the market has unique benefits and advantages. Different ones work best for different situations. Some are more expensive than others, but any can help store and backup your data.

For personal computers, the most commonly used data storage device is a thumb drive. These are small devices that can be carried around the neck or on a keychain. Some are even big enough to emulate the hard drive of a computer. A user can save important information to the thumb drive and then transfer it to another location without having to take a laptop. These devices are very convenient to use.

External hard drives are another solution. This data storage solution allows a user to back up entire hard drives where, when it isn’t connected, won’t be subjected to attacks or other threats that might cause the loss of data. These are better suited to long term storage solutions instead of daily work, though, since accessing it on a regular basis can grow tedious.

A third option is online data storage. This option is relatively new to the data storage industry, but they are quickly gaining in popularity. With these services a company can upload their files to an offsite server that is managed by the data service company. They have the staff in place to maintain the system so you don’t have to worry about it. Another benefit of this solution is that you can access your data anywhere there is an internet connection.

A fourth solution is the network attached data storage solution. This is an onsite system that is usually managed by an IT staff. This type of system creates a centralized storage area where multiple team members can store, retrieve, and backup important information. As you probably guessed, it is one of the more expensive solutions but is also one of the best for a lot of companies.

Each company and individual has to decide what the best solution is for them. By understanding the different options that are out there, a company or individual will be able to decide which type of solution is best for them.

Why Is Data Storage Security So Important?

Tags: , , , , , ,

Data storage is an important part of any business. The concern that all businesses should have is that sensitive information is a favorite target of hackers around the world. And they usually know where to look for it once they get access to your network. So what can you do to be sure that your data storage solution is being taken care of?

The truth is that there are always going to be possible threats to your stored data. But as you begin to understand these threats you will be able to better implement security measures to keep the data safe.

As long as information is connected to a network it can be reached from many different angles on that network. Many people don’t understand the vulnerabilities here, and this is what leaves the doorway wide open for attacks or accidents that could damage the data.

It is very common for network administrators to be so concerned with creating a system that gives their intended users easy access to information that they forget to plug the holes to keep intruders out. And once a hacker gets in they could gain free access to all of your data.

Hackers are not the only problem facing data storage systems. Simple human errors can cause a lot of problems as well. If the data is not stored in a way that it can be retrieved easily it can be lost and useless. This can be just as bad as a malicious attack if the right information is lost.

Many companies also deploy generic network and data storage security measures because it is simple and doesn’t take up too much time. Unfortunately, the methods to hack these generic security measures are well known in the hacker community and are usually the first things they will try. There are steps a company can take to ensure that their data storage remains safe from unwanted intrusions.

The problems that can come from a data breach are many. You could find your company in a lawsuit, and it is really bad PR. It is worth it to do everything you can to secure your data.

Data storage solutions need to not only be effective at storing data, but they also need to be secure. Make sure you take the time to have the best solution for your business.

Virtual Switchboards: DDNS

Tags: , , , , , , ,

Imagine the utter futility of having to use IP addresses to look up, find, and interact with your favorite websites. Even worse, imagine having to use IP addresses to send emails. You would have to use one of the two related naming conventions, the IPv4 or the IPv6 language. So, for instance, instead of visiting, say Amazon.com, you would have to type in and remember some maddening string like 2043:db1:1f61::967:de1:7261:3e2 to get to the website.

An exclusive IP naming convention would literally paralyze the Internet from a users perspective. The inability of most people to memorize such seemingly random number and letter combinations is just the tip of the un-friendly usability iceberg. The speed of use would never compare to our linguistics-based naming conventions. It would be comparable to books filled with numeric equations that represent alphabetic combinations. What would be the use of that?

To address this numeric madness, a digital domain system (a DDNS) was created to serve as a kind of instantaneous translation service. Many people liken it to something like an Internet phonebook. By typing in the name of the site you wish to visit, a DDNS service will make the corresponding connections to deliver you accordingly. A DDNS service makes a mathematics-based system (the Internet) relatable and usable for human beings.

Nailing down an effective DDNS service, as indeed no two services are created equal, is like hunting for a worthwhile cellphone provider. Like a cellphone conversation, a website search can be dropped. The IP server may be overloaded or busy, or the website itself may be experiencing technical difficulties. A worthwhile DDNS service will be able to juggle all incoming requests, finding a way to deliver either an alternate page of the site or generate a few IP variants to guarantee a visit.

As more businesses cultivate and establish an online presence, the overall traffic on the Internet will increase. Managing this traffic and delivering people to their desired websites is the responsibility of the DDNS service. Settling for a second-rate service will definitely affect your business. Visits are essential. As with any physical place of business, you need people to walk in the front door before they can buy anything.

IPTV Technology - 10 Reasons To Embrace it!

Tags: , , , , , , , ,

Is IPTV the technology of the future or is it all just hype?

Here are 10 important facts and advantages about IPTV. Hopefully this information can help you decide whether or not you are ready for the IPTV revolution.

1. Internet protocol television or IPTV, is an increasingly popular technology for the transportation of data information and Audio and Video (AV), across an IP based digital network. This could include Ethernet, WAN, LAN or internet. Add a set top box (STB) to the equation and AV sources can be streamed across existing networks to PCs or TVs. IPTV can be one to one (Unicast) or one to many (Multicast).

2. Latest research figures show that at present 15.5 million people subscribe to IPTV services - 8.4 million of these subscribers are from Europe.

3. Crucially IPTV systems avoidinterruptionof critical networks by utilising a separate video LAN.

4. Digital video has high bandwidth requirements and hence IPTV requires broadband Internet connectivity. In theory, accessing the high speed internet would allow IPTV users far greater control over their television programming and full customization facilities it to their individual preferences.

5. The ever popular Free-view channels are delivered without Terrestrial or SAT receivers being a requirement.

6. For additional revenue in hotels, local content, sport and films can be added, or offered free of charge to a student campus.

7. It is predicted that there will be around 12.7 million IPTV users in the US by 2012, compared to the current 3.3 million subscribers,

8. AV sources are able to be successfully streamed across existing networks to TVs or PCs, though require the addition of set top boxes (STB).

9. Problems that are common in analogue systems such as noise, ghosting, harmonics, reflections, cross modulation etc, are practically invisible in IPTV based networks.

10. All programs can be later retrieved from the IPTV network IPTV due to its storage facility.

IPTV Technology - In The Bathroom?

A classic example of how IPTV technology is being used in an increasingly ingenious number of ways, is with a luxurious, IP enabled bathroom television. These televisions are the ultimate in bathroom luxury, allowing the viewer safely to watch TV whilst soaking in a bath full of bubbles, or even taking a shower.

These water resistant televisions offer a user friendly solution to the hotels worldwide who are installing digital IPTV networks across their properties. It will no longer be necessary to hide STB’s in the void behind the shower or bathroom wall and run a separate IR receiver, but instead deliver TV, Radio, VOD and other services by simply feeding an Ethernet cable into the rear of the screen.

How about that for luxury!

Cover Letter Help And Beyond

Tags: , , ,

Creating a cover letter can be an off-putting task that can easily lead to writer paralysis and procrastination.

That is why, getting cover letter help through a professional service is never a bad idea and usually saves time. A cover letter can make the difference between getting an interview and having your resume ignored repetitively. Creating a successful cover letter should be a priority in your job search.

So what is a cover letter anyway?

Physically, It is single page document that accompanies your resume. In terms of information, it is the personal touch you add to the facts-oriented, highly structured resume. Its purpose is to transmit your personality to the hiring manager so that she can assess how well you will fit with the rest of the team. Think of it as that critical first impression. So when creating a cover letter, it is in your best interest to be personal and natural sounding.

Most HR people will agree that the following cover letter pointers, are correct. My experience confirms them.

Send the cover letter directly to the CEO or other important person in the company. Investigative skill are always valued in the work environment, even for positions that have nothing to do with espionage. The fact that you used such skills to dig up information that wasn’t mentioned in the job ad, awards you with a bonus in the mind of the reader. Job hunting experts often recommend bypassing the HR department where competition is fierce and everyone is seen as “just another applicant”. Always address a specific person instead of starting the cover letter by “Dear Sir or Madam” or “to whom it may concern”.

Organize the cover letter into three segments. In the First paragraph, do not use weak sentences like “I wish to apply for the position of advertised in “. Instead, use assertive phrases like “proven track record in completing projects ahead of time/achieving sales above expectation”. Demonstrate in the Second paragraph, how well you meet the employer’s requirements. Think of it as a spun version of the job advertisement. But, of course, be factual. Use bullet points, when appropriate, as this makes the cover letter more visually appealing. Finally, conclude the cover letter in the Third paragraph by requesting a date and time for an informal meeting. Repeat your contact information there.

You are almost ready to send it. But before you do this, use a word processor to double-check your spelling. Still, you are not done. Proof-read the page, or, better yet get someone else to do it, to see if any mistakes in meaning can be caught, that software is unable to detect, like “if” for “it”.

Hopefully, this article added new information into your knowledge about cover letters so that when applied, the probability of you getting the job you want and deserve, will increase. But even if it did, keep in mind that it is no substitute for cover letter help by a professional service.

Satellite PC Box - Watch Satellite TV Online

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Making a big buzz these days in the television and entertainment field is the satellite tv on a PC software. You can now watch satellite TV online. Although the tech savvy people these days are capable of getting access to free satellite technology for free, such an act is basically illegal. As much as it feels good to get something without the burden of our pockets, abiding by the law is still the most honorable thing to do.

With the growing popularity of online satellite tv, tons of Satellite Tv On Pc Software programs have come out that it’s already difficult for us to distinguish which software is the best. They all have colorful promises but the only way to prove such promises is to buy the product. Therefore it is best to define what makes an online satellite tv software reliable.

The most commonly employed technique in finding the best software so you can watch satellite TV online is to do a comprehensive online search about it. There are numerous sites that promote this brand and that brand, so a better thing is to search for as many reviews as you can for you to be able to weigh the advantages and disadvantages in purchasing the software.

Asking opinions or ideas from close circle of friends will also be a better help in the sense that these people are people you know personally and they certainly would not let you down. In specific aspects as this, asking what other people think is more important than following our instincts.

Another major thing to consider in hunting for the best deals over the internet for softwares that will enable you to watch satellite TV is the speed or swiftness of the software business entity in sending the downloadable software. A reliable Satellite Tv On Pc Software is one that is readily downloadable already as soon as you have made the payment. Waiting for days for the software is not the equivalent consequence of your money. If you want to watch satellite TV online you need to invest on a product or software that can deliver good service and unmatched customer care.
